Some countries allow patents on software, and freely redistributable software like Ubuntu cannot pay for patent licenses. If you are in one of these jurisdictions, you can buy licensed media playback plug-ins from the Canonical Store. Otherwise, select a free plug-in above to install it.

Unable to proceed to play the videos

Hello Rexan,

Are you sure that you are using the latest version of the vlc media player? Because from the error message that you have posted above it seems like your media player lacks the codecs that support the divx format are some others that have also been mentioned.

I will therefore suggest that you download the latest version of the vlc media player and install it and see if it will play the videos without any problems In case it refuses, you can also try other alternative media player like the KMplayer, and also the divx media player which have support to a wide range of video format including the divx format.

Hope this helps.
