This is the message that I have every time I want to update Sophos Antivirus and I cannot skip it or make the necessary updates. I tried to make the updates manually and automatically. Is there a solution for this error or should I look out for another antivirus ?

I’m not sure if there is really a solution to this, that is, if you want to fix it right away. This issue also happened around October of 2013 when all users are unable to update their Sophos antivirus. None of the Sophos support personnel returned an answer to the complaining users. Maybe because the server doing the authentication and update is really down temporarily.
Though I’m not sure about the duration of the failure but after a while, users started reporting that they are now able to update their antivirus. Yours only happened a little earlier. If you cannot update your antivirus at this moment, maybe you should wait for a few hours until the server is up and can resume updating of end user antivirus programs.
This issue usually happens during server maintenance. The duration normally occurs for a few hours and resumes immediately after the maintenance is completed.
