A clone is a copy of an already existing virtual machine. When the cloning is complete, it acts as an individual machine. A linked clone is made from a snapshot of the parent machine and each files at the time of snapshot is available to the clone but later it acts individually. Linked clone needs to be connected to parent for enabling or else it is disabled.
