I just got a Samsung S5 and I noticed that the fingerprint sensor is not working properly. When I swipe my finger on it, nothing happens. Is this a software or hardware problem? If it is a hardware problem, is there a need for me to return the device to the retailer?

It is advisable to try doing a soft reset. The steps to be followed are:

1 Remove the battery and sim card.
2 After 30 seconds, insert sim, battery and switch on the phone.

If the issue still persists, you can do a factory reset before which you have to ensure that all your important data in the phone are backed up. A factory reset will wipe off all the existing data and the phone goes to default setting.
