Today I decided to update my windows 7 home edition x64 to the new windows 8 pro. I am not going for a clean install from scratch. I opted for a direct upgrade. Is it possible for me to upgrade my windows and still keep all my programs intact? Will i lose all proprietary Sony programs?

I am a windows 7 user and I recently had to format windows vista from an old laptop I hadn't used from a long time. So I installed windows 7 but forgot to make partitions of drives like C,D,E etc. After the complete installation, I tried to make partitions by going to my computers but I had no idea how to do it. Is there anyway to make partitions after installation or do I have to install it again?

I recently had installed some software that made my widows to crush and so I prompted for a system restore, However during the process my system now wont start up like before. It keeps restarting and does not boot up. How can I correct this I have been having this problem for 2 days now.

Does windows os even have advanced firewall configuration? and if so how can i set up an advanced windows firewall settings in windows with policies such that it allows some open ports given an event has occured, user logged in/ out, detected a lot of ports being scanned among others

My Compaq screen just went off and will not power on when I restarted my machine. What could be the cause? I have checked for loose connections but all seems fine. What else can cause such a problem ? I need to know if the screen may need a replacement or possibly is just a glitch.

I have a desktop computer that I would wish to install Ubuntu along with windows 7, the problem is whenever I install Linux the windows will not display on booting and when I repair, the Linux will not show. How can I make the two to exist at the boot menu? Is this possible and how can I do this.?

Hi! I decided to change OS from Linux to Windows 7. I changed boot devise in BIOS, everything as usual, insert CD, but after sometime system lost connection with CD and somehow started to load Linux by itself, Then I had to restart my computer and after that I have only black screen with message "fixed disc: (and its number)". Now I can't install anything, not Windows nor Linux. Please assist.

I would wish to know how to change the interrupter request and to know if the change of this can affect my computer. Can it make it work faster on the devices listed? What is the implication of making the USB devices listed before most peripherals? Can my printer respond faster if I give it a lower value say IRQ 5?
