Just what is PC Maintenance and why it needs to be done to all computers?
PC Maintenance is Maintenance that owners of personal computers need to perform in order for their computers to run faster and better while their computers are still performing they way they were when purchased. No computer when being used is going to perform as if brand new without being properly maintained.
There are several steps the owner needs and can do on their own to keep their computers be they desktops or laptops. Those steps include but are not limited to cleaning the disk, defragmentation, and running the virus and spy ware programs on the computer. Will discuss these items here and other maintenance procedures in later articles.
Cleaning the disk is a process that is strictly software related. If you do not have the disk clean icon on your desktop, go to start, go to all programs, go to accessories, go to system tools and there you will find not only disk clean but also defrag. If you can put both of those icons on your desktop, please do so that you need both of them. On the desktop find the disk clean icon and left mouse double click on it. Select the C drive and then press ok. Choose everything except Set up log and compressed old files. Left those two items unchecked. Now press clean and let the computer clean those items out. You will be cleaning things like temporary files and temporary internet files.
The process of defragmentation is next. Double click on that icon and defrag your C drive. This process will put all your scattered files together and allow your computer to fun faster. And now for your spy ware and virus programs.
I do NOT recommend McAfee or the newest Norton as both companies were sold and the new people did not keep the programs up. I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials that is 95% automatic and 5% manual and Malware that is 100% manual. Both do their work and do it well. I have saved computer after computer where the bad guys were and gotten rid of all the bad guys using my equipment and my skills.
By following the above steps you have done your part to keep your personal computer running reasonably well. There are some other programs such as Win Cleaner were I get rid of registry errors and other problems that you can not do yourself and were you need a professional such as myself to get that part done.
