Sound on Skype comes out distorted

Hi there,

I was using Skype on Ubuntu 13.04 and all was okay until I updated to Ubuntu 13.10 and Skype sound became distorted, I can make a call and the sound is okay, but when am receiving the call, I cannot hear the other person well, I have tried reinstalling Skype and the same problem persist, how can I correct this problem and what are the possible causes for the same?

This is a common problem after upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 and is caused by an incompatibility between skype  and PulseAudio 4.0

In most cases, launching skype with the following command : “env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 /usr/bin/skype” fixes the problem

Downloading and reinstalling skype from the Ubuntu repository, rather than directly from Skype’s website should fix this problem permanently.
