I purchased Dell Inspiron in November 2013, and when I tried to turn on the computer today, it showed Dell error code 0151 incorrect status. It said my computer had some problem and advised me to run Dell Diagnostics. I got a dialog box sometime after I started the Dell Diagnostics procedure saying all this in the image below. Is it asking me to replace the hard drive? Please help me solve the problem.

Hi, I understand how frustrating it gets when computers do not work fine. I have a solution for you, and I hope it helps you to solve the problem. Merely follow the steps as I say:

• This error message is definitely for the hard drive.

• When you see this dialog box, restart the computer, and while it is restarting, press F12 key and using your arrow keys come on the diagnostics option and press Enter.

• This step will begin embedded testing in which your hard drive, system board, a keyboard is tested for proper functioning.

• If it completes successfully, you receive the following message: Booting Dell Diagnostic Utility Partition. It asks you to dab any key to continue.

• From the Diagnostics Utility partition, press any key to begin Dell diagnostics on your hard drive.

• After Dell Diagnostics window loads, on the main screen, you will see some tests like- express test, extended test, custom test, symptom tree. You can choose a specific test you wish to run.

• After the test is over, click on X at the upper right-hand corner of the screen to get back to the Main screen.

• Close the Main screen to exit Dell diagnostics and reboot your computer.
If the above option did not work, then you may have to replace the hard drive.
Thanks and Regards.

In Dell computers, if you performed a self-test on your hard drive and you receive error code “2000-0151”, it indicates hard drive failure and maybe nearing the end of its life. If this is your hard drive and where Microsoft Windows is installed, you probably need to get a new hard drive for your operating system.

Unfortunately, in most cases, your operating system no longer boots when you get this error. In this case, try booting using the last known good configuration option. Restart your computer then press F8 before the Windows logo appears. In “Advanced Boot Options” screen, scroll down and select “Last known good configuration” then hit Enter.

If this doesn’t work and you can’t boot your computer, the last option would be is to connect the drive to another working computer. This way you can attempt to access the contents of the drive as a data disk. Try backing up the contents of the drive if it is still accessible.
