The purpose of Windows Remote Assistance is same with all the Windows Operating Systems. It provides the facility of connecting one remote computer to another where a user can resolve the issues on the remote computer from another Microsoft system without touching the remote unit.

To enable the Remote Assistance feature on Windows XP,
• Go to Control panel and select the “system” icon. User can also right-click on “My computers” and select Properties.
• Select the option “Remote.” (By default, the “Allow remote assistance” option is activate).
• Go for “advanced” settings and activate the option “allow this computer to be controlled remotely.” Click on the option OK.
• Go to Start Menu, select Programs and click on “Remote Assistance.” Send an invitation for the connection.
• Select on “Invite someone to help you” option. Make the needed settings and after finishing, select the option “save invitation as a file (advanced).”
• Under “Remote Assistance- save Invitation,” write a desirable name and set the invitation to expire. Click on the option “continue.”
• Create a password and click on the option “Save Invitation.” Save the “RAInvitation” file in the desired location and create a folder name for the file.
• Now go to the location where RAinvitation file exists and right-click on the folder to click on “Sharing and Security” option.
• Under sharing, select the option “Share this folder.”
• Select the option “Permissions” and under “share permissions,” the “Group or usernames” set the option “Everyone.” (Make the required settings of Full control, Charge and Read).
• Click on the Option “Apply” and then select option “Okay.”
• Now in the “Help and Support Center” window, check for the details of the remote connections.
