I would like to know more information about a webcam. I need a detailed explanation of its functions when it is used in chat services like inviting friends to chat, viewing friends’ photos, as well as taking pictures using the webcam itself. I will highly appreciate if someone could shed some light on this.

A webcam is a shorten word for Web Camera. Its function is to capture images, pictures or video. Mostly used by business, private and personal use, traffic lights for monitoring and other functions that need to capture motions.
This is also being used for communications though chats, video call and other form that needs live feeding. Some webcams are simple to operate and rare are complex because of it's functionality used software and codes.
Webcam needs to be connected to a computer, mostly used through USB cord and is connected to USB ports. This hardware must have a software used for data capturing and for storage. It capture images in 30 seconds interval and transfer it to other location for viewing. However, some webcams are real time but this needs high frame rate.
Several webcam use JPEG file and when uploading is needed, it uses FTP and is in need to have Internet connection for this to operate.
Some social networking offers this service built to let there subscriber enjoy live chat and video calling. SKYPE offers this service that allows 2 persons that will communicate through webcam. Just recently, Facebook released and market this feature to let them enjoy real time conversation. Yahoo Messenger, AIM and Google+ are also offer this feature to shred machine like communication.
