What is the Epic Turla? Reports suggest that the malware has targeted major defense operations in the US in the Middle East. How does the virus propagate? What types of files does it create? How can I identify this virus? Is there a known way yet for disinfecting of this type of malware?

How can I identify the Epic Turla virus?

Kaspersky Lab recently discovered a cyber threat call “Epic Turla”, as per their results, 45 countries are already attacked by this cyber threat.

Turla, also known as Snake or Uroburos is the sophisticated ongoing cyber-threat. The latest Kaspersky Lab research on this operation reveals that Epic is the initial stage of the Turla victim infection mechanism.

 

The way to determine if you are affected of the Epic Turla is to identify if there has been an intrusion. Threat identification can be done with a strong antivirus.

How to protect against The Epic Turla

1.   Keep operating system and all third party applications, notably Java, Microsoft Office and Adobe Reader updated

2.   Do not install software from untrusted sources, for instance when prompted by a random page

3.   Be wary of e-mails from unknown sources containing suspicious attachments or links

A security solution should be turned on at all times and all its components should be active. The solution’s databases should also be up to date
