I am unable to choose the GUI environment option and could proceed only up to Home in my OpenSUSE 11.3 DVD. I have tried updating it. But it doesn’t solve the problem. Please help.

This is very common problem which I think most of new user of the OpenSUSE operating face. Actually most of the times after installation users are not able to see the GUI. For that purpose if you can successfully able to login to console or in other words can see console then type the following and you will see the GUI:
startx
The startx command will bring the default desktop you. If you still not able to see your default desktop even after executing the commands then I think there either the xauth get failed or you don’t have properly configured the X server on your machine.
