Hi everyone,

This failure that I have been experiencing for a couple of weeks now.

The Windows updates failed to complete and I don't know how to continue the update.

I tried the Restore Settings , but still it fails to complete the updates. Going to search the entire system, but I didn't see the solution. I search in HELP button , but still none.

Where can I find the right options to fix the error?

Dear Michael Jhon,

There are so many reasons that are why you failed to update your windows XP. The security updates usually failed to download and install because of windows firewall. If the firewall turned on, it will fail to update. So, please turn the firewall off. You can find this option in the control panel.

Try to update from http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx

There is another solve.

Go to run command and type 'regedit' there. Registry editor will be opened.

Press F3

Type 'regdone' and press enter. A dialog box will be opened.

Set the value 1.

Press OK and close the registry editor.

Restart your computer.

I think your problem is solved.

Thank you.

What are the Windows components that failed to download? Failed to update issue occurs when the Wups2.dll that is included in the recent version of windows was installed incorrectly. To resolve this, please try the following resolutions:

1. Download and install the Windows Update Agent. But before proceeding, you have to identify whether you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit edition of Windows. To do this, just click on Start and then Run. Then type msinfo32.exe and then click OK. Under the system Information, check for the value of System Type. For 32-bit, the System Type is x86 based PC and for 64-bit, the system Type is x64. And then continue with downloading the Windows Update Agent.

2. To register the Wups2.dll, just go to Start > Run > type cmd and then click OK. Type "net stop wuauserv" at the command prompt and press enter. And then register the wups2.dll by typing "regsvr32 %windir%system32wups2.dll" at the command prompt and then press enter. A pop up box will appear stating that you have already registered wups2.dll, click OK.

3. Retry the automatic Update service by typing the following command "net start wuaserv" and press enter. And then type Exit to close the command prompt.
