How to fix Error 691?

While connecting to internet through the dial up connection, I keep receiving error 691.

It says

Verifying username and password…
Error 691: Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain.
Redial=48 Cancel More Info

Though access was denied because of wrong user name or password, but I am pretty sure that the login information is correct.

I am using WinXP pro.

Any solution?

This is because your dial-up connection is either unsecured or unable to run correctly and this prevents your computer from connecting to the Internet. The possible causes are:

  • You have type incorrect Username and Password
  • Your dial-up connection security option is not configured properly to use the require password setting
  • You have selected the include windows logon domain check box in the option tab of your dial-up connection properties box.

To fix this:

Ensure that your login details are correct. To do this:

  • Click Start, select the Connect To then click on your Dial-up connection
  • Click Properties and then Option tab
  • Clear the Include Windows Logon check box then OK
  • Click Dial

*Stop here if the above steps resolve your problem. Otherwise continue with the next step.

        – In the connect box, ensure that you have type the correct Username and Password and then click Dial.

                * Stop here if the above steps resolve your problem. Otherwise continue with the next step.

  • Click Start, select the Connect To then click on your Dial-up connection
  • In the Connect box, click Properties
  • Select the Security Tab
  • Click Allow unsecured password in the Validate my Identity under security options then click OK.

The first thing to do is to counter check, if you are using the correct user name and id.  Second check if the security settings are correctly configured, the third way to solve this problem is, if you put the dial – up setting manually, click on the default so that it can automatically give the correcting settings.  Finally create another user name and password.

Hi brother,

When you get an error 691, it is an error caused because of mismatch in the user name and password. Please check whether caps lock is on, while you are typing the user name and password. If the same problem persists then you need to call your service provider and confirm whether there is any outage issue at your place and also clarify whether your connection got suspended due to billing issues.

If there are no such issues then the modem is faulty and you need to visit the authorization center.

Hello,

This problem is occurred when a conflict is created in the saved user name and password. This may be cause because of :-

  • Change of system (laptop/Pc), or change in mother board,LAN card etc.
  • Misspelling of the user name/password, caps lock on/off.
  • Port binding error by ISP.
  • Authentication problem in AAA server of ISP.

Trouble shooting:-

  • Check for correction of user name password
  • Take care of Caps lock
  •  Contact your ISP for reseating the password
