I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and IIS 7 when a web page just stopped on responding and after reloading the page an error message appears in EventLog(System) stating: Cannot bind SMTP requests to port 25 because it is already in use by another process.” What is this error and what is the resolution for this? Kindly please help me.

Error on IIS 7 in the Event Log

The possible cause to that problem is that there is an on-access virus scanner running and it is blocking the  XWall from accessing the files downloaded files that have been downloaded. To resolve that issue, you will need to use the following workaround;

  • You will need to disable the scanning of the XWall directory in your on-access scanner.
  • You will have to note that most scanners will not be able to find a virus that is in a raw message file, and that is possibly because they are not able to extract the attachments from the message and if they can extract the message then it is not possible that they would find anything, but the will just end up confusing  XWall more than it would help.

In case you will be able to enable the virus scanner support in XWall, then what it will do is that it will extract the attachments and html pages from the message and then call the scanner to scan it.
