Digital ubuntu sign PDF with certificate

I am planning to acquire a s/MIME certificate issued by Ubuntu authority. How can I digitally sign the certificate. Can you provide clear procedure with ubuntu sign pdf with certificate? Can I actually use a Free software to do this? If yes, what and how to use it?
