My PC has just 'c' drive.Is it possible to create partitions without formatting the drive?

Yes you can partition you drive without formatting it; there are many partition tools available that will help you in this regard. No matter how many drives you have but partitioning tool will creates partition within the drive. In order to portion your drive go to this link
It helps you in each and every step of partitioning. You can partition by partition drive and by using partitioning manager. Hope by going to this link you can easily partition your C drive. You cam eve re-partition the drive just follow the instruction on the above link and your query will be resolved.

Yes, it is absolutely possible. Actually, I have already answered this problem so I will just give you the steps once again. In order for you to partition your drives without even formatting your old partition, you will just have to reduce you partition to be able to free an unallocated space. With it, you can now add a new partition. Of course, you should have a significant space in your primary partition for future use, and for temporary storage.
Anyway, here are the steps:
1. Open Computer Management. In Windows XP, it is easily found in Control Panel. In Windows Vista and 7, it is found in Control Panel > Safe and Security.
2. Click Disk Management > Wait for the resources to load
3. Once it is finished, right – click on the hard drive you want to be partitioned > Click Shrink Volume
4. Shrink the volume as you please
5. After a new partition is created, format the partition to create a new drive.
6. Restart your computer when done.
