Hi,

Yes, it is possible to upgrade or update your ipod touch offline. Ofcourse, you must have the firmware upgrade file downloaded. Yes, it is verified by apple; I mean you downloaded it from their site or from a very reliable source right? It should probably work. Just check out the compatibility of your phone and the firmware upgrade file. If it is compatible to your version of Ipod Touch, then it should work fine. Anyway, let’s get back on the procedures on how to apply it to your phone. You must have a connector between your phone and pc, an itunes application in your pc, and ofcourse, the pc. Connect your Ipod Touch to the pc. Open itunes; shift+click on the update button found in the itunes interface. When a pop-up menu appears, select the firmware to upload to device. This should transfer the file to your Ipod. Open the file in your Ipod. This should do it.

Yes, it is possible to update your iPod touch’s firmware offline using a firmware file. There are 3 ways to update an iOS device. First is through OTA or Over-The Air, second is using iTunes, and the third and the last is using a firmware file. For example, if you want to update your iPod touch to iOS 7.1, you can download the firmware file to update your device manually instead of updating your device via iTunes or OTA.

To update manually to iOS 7.1, click iPod touch Fifth Generation. This downloads the firmware file directly to your computer. Note for jailbreakers, don’t make an attempt to update your iOS devices to iOS 7.1 because Apple has reportedly patched some of the vulnerabilities that were used in evasi0n7 jailbreak for iOS 7. Once downloaded, connect your iPod touch to your computer using the USB cable then wait until iTunes starts.

Tap on the device button located at the top right corner of iTunes. For Windows, press and hold the Shift key; for Mac, press and hold the option key and then click “Check for Update” under the Summary pane. Browse to the location of the downloaded firmware file or IPSW file and then select it. While iTunes is updating your device, don’t unplug it from your computer until the firmware is installed completely.
