I just installed Skype on my laptop with Windows 8.1 and when I tried to log in this error appeared. Skype worked just fine on Windows 8 before the updates. What could be the problem ? How can I solve this error ?

Most of the time whenever I encounter this error on my computer it is just one of those random errors that happens on programs and in my case it always appears when closing or shutting down the computer and it doesn’t appear again the next time I start the machine. If you are using other programs simultaneously with Skype then try closing them and start Skype again.
If that doesn’t work, restart your computer and try Skype again then see if it works. Don’t run other programs aside from Skype. If the problem continues and you are running Microsoft Windows 8.1 then you are probably not using the latest version. Download the latest version from the official website, Skype for Windows 6.18.0.105 or from FileHippo, Skype 6.18.0.105 for Windows.
Skype 6.18.0.105 supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 so I’m sure this latest version will work on your computer if you are using Windows 8.1. Also, try opening Skype as administrator.
