When you get the error Access is Denied, it could be because your security program or your permission settings are preventing Game Maker Studio to work properly. To fix this, check on those things or follow the steps below:

1. Go to My Computer and then right-click on it and click on Properties.

2. Under the Advanced tab, click on the Environment Variables.

3. Click New and then add a new user variable.

4. Enter a name into it as LOCALAPPDATA and the value as %USERPROFILE%Local SettingsApplication Data

5. Press OK.

Other solution might be to uninstall and reinstall the Program and then download it from the link below. The installer you have downloaded might be corrupt or damaged.

If you are running Microsoft Windows 7, you shouldn’t encounter any problem with GameMaker Studio because the application supports Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 until Windows 8. For Windows 8.1 users, in case you encounter a problem starting it, try running the program in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or Windows 8. It should do the trick.

You may also try running the program as administrator. Sometimes even if you are using an administrator account, especially when you are using Windows Vista and higher, applications fail to start though it is compatible. When things like this happen, running the program as administrator greatly helps and most of the time fixes common issues encountered.

To do this, right-click on GameMaker Studio’s shortcut or icon on the desktop and select Properties. Go to Compatibility tab and check “Run this program as an administrator” under “Privilege level” section. Next, click OK and then start the program. See if this fixes the problem. See image.
