I recently bought a new Dell inspiron 8600 laptop.
The desk top with XP and received the same message "windows does not recognize USB device".
XP does not recognize keyboard/mouse
Please Give me Tips To solve the problem
XP does not recognize keyboard/mouse
Solution 1: Check your Motherboard Driver
There might be a problem with your motherboard driver. Have you installed all the necessary driver for your motherboard?
The driver for your motherboard that its looking might be the chipset. It is a possibility and there is nothing wrong in trying. Try installing this chipset driver for your board
Solution 2: Not enough power to supply
You might be experiencing a hardware failure because of lower power outage, since it is a USB device and might be because your Mouse and Keyboard has many features. Try upgrading your power supply or buy a less powered mouse and keyboard.

XP does not recognize keyboard/mouse
Hello Eddie,
In my experienced having this kind of problem Windows XP does not immediately adapt the secondary interface which is PS/2 to USB adapter or USB to PS/2 to USB adapter because program conversion between hardware and software interface is not supported yet.
You need to have new installation of Windows XP including the connection of your PS/2 to USB adapter to recognize. With this problem also we used to have a KVM switch device so that in the long run of using PS/2 or USB, continuous task are made.
Microsoft update does not also support this problem. Yes you get an indicator that keyboard and mouse are connected but it doesn’t mean functional.
The indicators represent only a supply not giving you an appropriate data.
