Hello everybody.

I have a strange problem, when I tried to open an Excel document, I got an error message, something about links.

Other documents open without a problem and can be edited with no problem.

Maybe I need to re-install Microsoft Office to get it working.

Thank you for your answers.

This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated.

* To change the source of links, or attempt to update values again, click Edit Links.
* To leave the links as is, click Continue.

Workbook links cannot be updated error

Hello StefenM.

A "link" is created when one or more cells in your Excel worksheet gets its data from another workbook. The link contains a record of where it will get its data from.  If the source of the data (the linked workbook) is missing (such as when the linked workbook has been deleted or renamed or moved to another location) that error pops up.

If the linked workbook was moved to another location or renamed, you can click on "Edit Links…" to point your current workbook to the linked workbook.  If you press Continue, whatever data is in the linked cells will not change because it cannot update the data.

If you want to remove that message, you can click "Edit Links" and look for the linked workbook or you can just unlink the cells by doing a Copy and then Paste > Values.
