XLS is the main type of an Excel File which belongs to older versions. Quicken created Quicken Interchange Format for its Financial purposes. It is also used in GnuCash and Microsoft money. You will have to download an Add-In for MS Excel.

1) Download the Add-In and install it.

2) Now, open the File that you want to convert.

3) Select the “XL2QIF” option that is present in the Toolbar.

4) After that, click on “Save to QIF.”

5) Name the New File, and select the desired location.

6) Click on Convert.

That’s it.

“QIF” or “Quicken Interchange Format” (.qif) is an open specification for reading and writing financial data to media like files. Though it is still widely used, this file format is a format older than OFX or Open Financial Exchange. One of the main disadvantage or limitation of the QIF format is the failure to resolve imported transactions against the existing account information.

If you have a Microsoft Excel file that needs to be converted to QIF format, download the free XL2QIF Microsoft Excel add-in and install. This will add a new item in the Microsoft Excel toolbar. Next, open Microsoft Excel then open the file you need to convert to QIF. In the toolbar, click “XL2QIF” then select “Save to QIF.”

In the “Export” dialog, type a name for the exported QIF file in the “File Name” field. In “File Location” field, navigate to the location where the file will be saved. When you are finished, click “Convert.” This will now convert the XLS file to the QIF format.
