Hi,
A newly purchased system is causing problems while rebooting the new Windows(upgrading to different Windows). I installed a new copy of Windows XP, but got an error saying "invalid product code" and Microsoft refuses to activate even though I entered the appropriate code. What will be the exact cause of this error? Thanks folks.
Windows XP throwing an error message as “invalid product code”
This may occur, if the product key that you are using, to install Windows XP matches with either of the two product keys, that have been determined by Microsoft as invalid.
These two product keys create a product ID that matches one of the following product IDs (where X is any numeric value):
-
XXXXX-640-0000356-23XXX
-
XXXXX-640-2001765-23XXX
RESOLUTION: To resolve this problem, first determine the Windows product ID on your computer. If your Windows, product ID matches either of the product IDs that are listed in the "Cause" section, you could be a victim of piracy.
Windows XP throwing an error message as “invalid product code”
Yusuf,
My first question is (and i hope you don't get offended) are you sure you typed in the right characters? I mean you must have mistaken a zero for the letter O. Second question, did you use the same product key that came with the installer? Because a product key that worked in one installer does not actually work with any other installer.
Third question, are you sure you're installer is genuine? I mean, there are lots of pirated ones out in the market and you can't tell the difference. If it is an original code, you can just call Microsoft Customer Service and Support ((800) MICROSOFT (642-7676)). They will be able to give you a working product code. April Y.
