Hi Brothers & Sisters,

I am using Windows 7 from quite some time and i get this message that pop's now and then.

“The operation could not finish because it could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager service in time. Please try the operation again.”

Can anyone help me with a fix?

Thanks in advance

Check if your Telephony, Remote Access Connection Manager and Remote Access Auto Connection is set as Disabled.

  •     For the Telephony:

If ever they are disabled, enable them by going to “Start” menu then click “My Computer” and press “Manage”. Now click twice the “Services and Application” and “Services”.

Press “Telephony” then choose “Properties”. Once you’re in General icon, tap “Manual” right next to the “Startup type”. Again in General icon, tap “Start” below the “Service status” then press “Ok”

  •     For the Remote Access Connection Manager:

If ever they are disabled, enable them by going to “Start” menu then click “My Computer” and press “Manage”. Now click twice the “Services and Application” and “Services”. Press “Remote Access Connection Manager”then choose “Properties”.

Once you’re in General icon, tap “Manual” right next to the “Startup type”. Again in General icon, tap “Start” below the “Service status” then press “Ok”

  •     For the Remote Access  Auto Connection Manager:

If ever they are disabled, enable them by going to “Start” menu then click “My Computer” and press “Manage”. Now click twice the “Services and Application” and “Services”.

Press “Remote Access Auto  Connection Manager”then choose “Properties”. Once you’re in General icon, tap “Manual” right next to the “Startup type”. Again in General icon, tap “Start” below the “Service status” then press “Ok”

  • You can also try to solve this problem by using the regedit

Go to “Start” and in the search field input: regedit, then  press on the regedit.exe. Launch the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesSstpSvc.

Now press down “Start” and choose the “Modify”. Replace the value of data less than its former value.

Which version of windows 7 application are you running, because sometimes that problem occurs because of the service not being supported in some versions of windows 7, and therefore you will need to do the following:

  • Get windows installation CD that has all the windows 7 versions.
  • Put it in the DVD drive and then restart the computer.
  • Let the boot process begin, as well as the installation process.
  • When the installer asks whether you want to do an upgrade or a custom installation, choose the upgrade.
  • The windows 7 versions will be listed.
  • You will need to choose Windows 7 ultimate that has all the packages and the upgrade the OS.

That should help fix the problem.
