Hello Techyvians,

I would like to change the startup theme sound of my Windows 7. Control panel sound settings in Windows 7 can't be altered for this very thing. There are other various methods I've tried like resource editors, but they are never full proof. Instead I get some errors like this – Error code 50 "The request is not supported".

I'm in a serious fix. So I need some help on this Windows 7 effect startup wav settings & acknowledged procedures to accomplish the same.

Changing Windows 7 effect start up wav sound settings is easy. Just go to control panel then click on then click on hardware and sound and then change system sound. I hope it will work well. A helping link here: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/285-sounds-change.html

I am sorry to say that you can't change Windows 7 effect startup wave sound.

You say startup sound is wav format but its wave format.

Windows 7 startup sound separates below that sound chart.

Startup sound cannot change without customize imageres.dll file.

But you can try "Startup Sound Changer" software to change Windows 7 startup sound.

It's work to customize the imageres.dll file.

I hope that's helpful for you.

Before we proceed further, keep backups of your data. Because this process deals with system files and an incorrect modification might harm your HDD.

Carefully follow the steps given below  to change the Windows 7 Start-up sound.

1. Create a copy of imageres.dll in your Desktop. Locate it from c:windowssystem32 folder.

2. Start the Command Prompt as an Administrator and type:

TAKEOWN /F %windir%system32imagesres.dll && ICACLS %windir%system32imageres.dll /GRANT Administrator:F

3. Go to www.bome.com/products/restorator and download the Restorator.

4. Install it and then run Restorator.

5. Expand the Wave folder on the left pane. Find the file 5080. This is the default start-up sound played when starting Windows 7. Right-click the 5080 file and then click Assign then Assign To…

6. Choose your desired start-up sound and click Open.

7. Save your changes and then quit Restorator.

Tick the Play Windows Startup Sound check box.
