In order to use Wifi I would advise you first to check if all drivers all installed. To do that follow these steps:
– For Ubuntu < 10.10
Go to System->Administration->Additional drivers. This application will check your system and download drivers if it's needed
– For Ubuntu > 11.04
Go to Dash and type Additional drivers and follow above steps.
After your drivers are installed now click on internet icon (on left side from clock) and select your wifi network, if you can't see your network make sure your wifi switch is turned on (if you have it).
