 Hello,

I am using windows 2000 professional in one of my laptop computer and it normally takes several minutes to load. I have installed limited softwares to this computer and maintained recommended free space of hard disk. But I use free antivirus software and is some kind of direct or indirect virus activity responsible for this delay? Please share your experience with me.

Hello,

You must know that it was released in 1999 and after that windows xp and than windows 7 and now windows 8 is released. These other three from windows 2000 professional has some facilities for which it is sold in the market. Windows 2000 professional is little bit of slow than the other three . So it takes some time in loading. After all virus activity such as auto update also can lower the speed of your laptop if your laptop has right configuration. Thank you.

If you have a computer that takes a very long time to perform a boot, you should run a full system scan with your antivirus. But if you are using a free antivirus, it can normally just scan for viruses and doesn’t actually remove them. Download Sophos Virus Removal Tool. It is not an antivirus but a tool to remove hard-to-detect viruses.

Once installed, start Sophos then wait for the virus signature database to get updated. When updating is complete, click to start scanning the machine. The tool scans everything on your computer including devices connected via USB port. When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus.

The tool works alongside any antivirus program you may have. That’s why you don’t need to uninstall or disable your antivirus before using the tool. In severe cases of infection, it is necessary to perform a fresh installation of the operating system or Microsoft Windows because it can no longer restore the original boot up time of the computer due to the range of the damage.

If you want free antivirus, try these two: Avast Antivirus or Avira Antivirus.
