What effect does cache memory have

I do not know a lot about processors but I would like to know about cache memory? What is actually that L1 cache, L2 cache and others, does the cache memory have any effect on the processing speed of a computer and why is the size of cache memory so low? I have also noticed that the core i3, i5 and i7 have a larger volume of cache memory. Are the cache memory a part of processors?

Hi,
Cache memory is Random Access Memory which can be access more fast than the regular RAM. It is integrated directly with CPU and can be separate chip. There are 3 levels of cache memory depending on the data capacity storage and speed of accessing it. L1 cache is fastest and smallest among them. L2 cache is larger than L1 but smaller than L3 and slightly slower than L1. L3 cache is larger and slower among them.
