Microsoft originally designed Silverlight in order to compete with the Adobe Flash Player and instead competed with Adobe Air. It is basically a plugin that will allow you to watch all the content of Silverlight in your browser (Opera, Chrome, IE, Safari).

The latest updates brought features like streaming, DRM management and also a player out of the browser.

In my opinion it is a good software, but only if you need it regarding Silverlight content.
