Dear Priscilla

A VPN is a virtual private network using public telecommunication infrastructure and provides services to remote office or people who travel giving them access to a central organizational network. VPN is advantageous as it secures the data encryption technologies. It is cost effect as physical leased lines are not required to connect users to the intranet. They also serve the functionality of any network such as network resources, printers, etc. It is recommended to use a VPN if desired.

A peer-to-peer network is a network of computers in which all the computers can act as individual server and clients with shared access to files without a central server. The main disadvantage of using a P2P network is that only the system administrators can control the availability of files being shared. Another disadvantage of P2P is that any harmful data is also distributed by slight modifications in the files that are already distributed on the network.
