Unread email issues with Thunderbird

Whenever I login into Thunderbird first of all it takes a lot of time to download my emails and once all the emails are downloaded, the mails which were read before also show that they are unread. It takes a lot of effort to figure out which emails are already read before. Please advice as this is an ongoing problem since I am using Thunderbird.

It usually seems a bug in Thunderbird 3 on Windows but infact it depends on how recently have you COMPACTED your folders? Compacting is something that needs to be done regularly in any email program. Tech team mostly recommend weekly, but many of us do it on daily basis. If it is done frequently and often, then it can be an extremely fast process. But if you won’t compact your folders then it can lead to problems like those you are experiencing.

Also I will suggest you first take back up of your Thunderbird Profile, then compact all folders. Compacting is a long process specially if you are doing it first time. If it still doesn’t resolve your problem then CLOSE Thunderbird. Find and delete all of the files with the .msf file extension in your profile folder/Mail.

If nothing works then contact Thunderbird support team.
