I am trying to update the Google Chrome in my laptop by going to the about page and checking for updates. But I keep on getting the error that "Update server not available: error 3). What can I do to successfully update the Chrome browser? Can Google chrome be installed from a website other than the official Google website?

This is common and a known issue with the auto-update of Google Chrome if you are using Windows Vista/7. To avoid getting this error you need to make sure that Google Chrome doesn't have elevated privilege (Run as Administrator) option enabled. Make sure it is set as a normal user. To check right click on Google Chrome > Properties > then compatibility tab. Under compatibility tab make sure there is no check under the option run this program as administrator. If the option is not checked you can uninstall and then reinstall Google Chrome and download from this link: https://www.google.com/chrome/?system=true. But setting your expectation, bookmarks, history or saved pages might be removed or deleted.

Hello Anthony P Pettis,  You need to run the Google chrome in administration mode. If the problem remains same, Then you need to uninstall the Google chrome from your computer. Then open any other browse. Go to   http://www.google.com/chrome/  After going on this link; Select the Google chrome version according to what you own laptop or mobile. I think this will help you to update the chrome browser.

If you keep receiving that error whenever you try to check for updates via the “Help” menu, it means it has a problem contacting the server. This can be a problem with your internet connection. Check to see if your internet connection is working. On your browser, try visiting other websites to see if your internet connection is working. If you can’t access any website, try troubleshooting your connection.

Disconnect the network cable from the network port at the back of the CPU then connect it back. If this doesn’t work, disconnect the other end of the cable from the Wi-Fi router then connect it back. If this doesn’t work, restart the router.

If the router has a power button, press it to turn it off then unplug it from the power for about ten to twenty seconds (10 – 20). Press any button on the router to drain any leftover power or to power cycle. After this, plug the router back to the power and turn it on.

If this doesn’t work, download the standalone installer manually: Google Chrome Offline Installer.
