Solution for parental control for MAC

Mac OS X 10.5 has built-in parental control features so (as long it fulfills your needs) you don’t really need an external solution.

In order to limit the access to Internet websites you just need to enable the Parental Controls and these controls will automatically work for all your browsers. But you cannot apply this content filtering on the administrator’s user account so you will have to create a different user account for applying the limitations on internet access.

Here is how to enable these controls:

  • Go to the Apple menu and click on System Preferences.
  • Click on Parental Control icon
  • Now select an account (from left side of the window) on which you want to apply parental control (except the administrator user account). After selecting an account click Enable Parental Controls button
  • Now click the Content tab
  • Here you can choose one of the three modes under Website Restrictions. The Internet content filter can work in three modes: unrestricted, automatic, and white list. You can learn more about these models here:

  • You can apply enable filtering of any non-administrator account by following the steps 3 through 6 again.
