Hey,
I have a DSL connection to my desktop machine, through wired LAN, that I want to share with laptops in my home over WiFi. How can I setup up my private WiFi network for Internet? Do I need additional software? My operating system is Windows 7 Home.

Sharing DSL internet over WiFi
Â
Hello Hj2011,
Â
If you want to have a WiFi Connection in your home, then you need to set-up wireless Internet connection. You can do this by yourself, or you can have a technician do it for you.
Â
Here are the requirements to set-up a wireless connection:
 Â
-
Operating System that will support wireless connection. Since your operating system is Windows 7, you will not have any problem with this as WiFi is supported by your OS.
-
Wireless Router.
-
WiFi Enabled computer (should have wireless adapter installed). Your desktop can use the cable because the router has a slot where you can connect the Ethernet cable but your Laptops should be WiFi Enabled.
Â
Instructions to install wireless connection:
Â
-
What I can advice you as well is to ask your current DSL provider if they can provide you with a wireless router or you can buy one for yourself.
-
If you have this installation done, you will have your own way of managing your WiFi connection. You can set-up security as well. Or if it was installed by your technician, let them set it up for you and teach you as well how to manage it.
Â
I hope I was able to give you an overview of WiFi.
