Hello everyone! My hp elite book 8440p supports touch security. There is a finger print scanner on my laptop to set it as my password. But I don't know how I can set it so every time my computer logs in, it asks for my finger scan before the home screen opens. Can anyone tell me from where I can set that setting in my laptop?

First use of the fingerprint reader requires you to enroll one or more fingerprints with the Access Manager.  This is to ensure that the reader has a fingerprint pattern to compare it to.

To set up the fingerprint reader:

  • Click the Start button, type “Protect” in the search area, select the HP ProtectTools Security Manager from the search list.
  • In the HP ProtectTools window, click on Credentials and then click Fingerprints.
  • When the Fingerprints screen opens, type your Windows password and click the “Next” button
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to register the first fingerprint.
  • A second fingerprint needs to be enrolled for extra security.
  • Click on the “Save” button for the registration of your fingerprint enrollments to be finalized.
  • Lastly, click on “Password Manager” to expand the Security Manager window, click “Settings” and then make sure you click “Prompt to add Logons for Logon Screens”
  • The HP ProtectTools program can now be closed.

After enrolling your fingerprints, you can log off from the user account, and then log back on to Windows using your enrolled fingerprints. It is recommended that you enroll two fingerprints
