Well Jade, there can be many causes of this happening to your PC. Can you tell me whether you purchased Malwarebytes or your downloaded a trial version and manipulate it? If you did the second option, the most probable cause is that manipulated software has a virus in it. When you try to use an illegal software, the virus got installed which is causing your PC to run very slow. What version of windows do you have on your system by the way? In any case, it is highly recommended that you completely uninstall the software from your system. If it doesn't help, you need to restore your PC to an old date. This will most definitely solve the problem but you will lose the different software that you installed during that period. I hope it solves the issue for you.

I guess the decline in the performance of your computer is greatly affected by the antivirus you installed. You should review Malwarebytes’ system requirements to see why it is slowing down your machine. Malwarebytes supports Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher 32-bit only, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or higher, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit.

It requires 800 MHz or faster processor with SSE2 support, 2 GB RAM for 64-bit Microsoft Windows and 1 GB RAM for 32-bit Microsoft Windows except Windows XP which requires only 256 MB RAM, 20 MB free hard drive space, 1024 x 768 screen resolution, and internet connection for updating. If you noticed a sudden decline in your computer’s performance, I guess you better check your memory.

If you are using Windows Vista or higher, you need a much bigger RAM. Malwarebytes is quite a memory-hugger for operating systems above Windows XP. You won’t stand a chance if you only have 1 GB and you are using Windows Vista and up. Your system will be very slow. You need to add more RAM if you want to continue using Malwarebytes.

If upgrading the physical RAM of your computer is not an option at the moment, I guess it would be better if you shift to another antivirus that doesn’t hug the memory and has much lower requirements. Why not try ESET Smart Security. It supports Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit.

Microsoft Windows XP is no longer supported in the latest ESET 10.x products. It requires 1 GHz or faster processor, 512 MB RAM, 320 MB free hard drive space, and 800 x 600 screen resolution.
