I need to block streaming media tmg version is 2010. I tried the next commands: HTTP Configure/ Blocking Extensions and then RULE /Deselect Video and Audio in Content Tab. It was successful, however, my Skype or Live Messenger are not working as well as my mails (gmail, tahoo mail). Why it became like that and which is the proper way for that blocking if I did something wrong?

Hello

I would use the application K9 Web protection. It allows you to block many different categories of websites such as adult content, drugs related sites, social media sites, streaming video sites etc. You can even block specific websites such as You Tube. In order to view the blocked websites you need to put in the password which you set when creating the account. It even blocks banner ads on other websites which may be advertising the sites which you don't want to view. So there is no way of viewing the websites without the password.

 Hi Michael,

The reason why your Skype and other mails are not working is because you have blocked all the video and audio content which the above applications you want to use apply use.

Follow the following steps to block any site or content that you wish to block and unblock the ones you do not want to

  •     On the TMG management console select fire wall policy
  •     Right click on it and choose new access rule and make a new deny rule e.g., "blocked sites"
  •     Select finish to close the wizard but do not select apply just yet
  •     Right-Click on the new rule that you have made and select properties
  •     Open the content type tab and hit new
  •     And create a new content type give it a name (X)
  •     Then go to available types and enter some file extensions like :  .avi, .mov, .wmv, .mvx, .mp4, .mpg, .mpeg, .mpe, .mpv, .mp2, .mpv2, .mp2v, .mpa and .dvr-ms
  •     Click ok and check to ascertain that the box next to new content is enabled
  •     Click ok to apply your changes.
