This are the steps in order  to set up a password using your galaxy tab. This is what you can do. First you go to settings, then go to location and security, and then set screen lock. When you are already in the Set scroll lock like what is in the image below, you can unlock your galaxy tab by pressing the patterns on the screen. To unlock, enter your PIN number. I that way you can create a password you unlock your galaxy tab.

Hoping that this would fix your problems with regards to setting up a password.

Your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100 tablet runs on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich originally and can be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. To set the password, you just need to know what specific operating system is running on your device because sometimes it differs. I’m not using Android so I’m not sure if the two versions differ.

Anyway, here’s how you do it on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. On your tablet, go to “System settings”. In “Settings” screen, scroll down and select “Security” then tap “Screen lock” and then “Password”. Enter the password on the next screen then tap “Continue” when you’re done. Enter it again to confirm then tap “OK”. Your password has to be a minimum of four characters to be accepted.

And that’s it. That’s how easy it is. If you want to see how it is done on video, go to How to Set Password on Android ICS Device. For more information about the tablet’s specifications, go to The Price of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
