Office computer only has Word Pad not Word

Hello, the office where I work requires me to complete documents (I use Word) but when they go to open them up, they are reformatted and open up on Word Pad.  Sometimes they look ok, but other times the formatting is off and/or the document doesn't work.  The office doesn't want to have to pay and have Word installed.  Is there any way I can mimic the formatting but still deliver a clean product, or what is my best option?  Thank you.

All the .doc files are word files. No difference is there. You have to change the registry entries.
 
For changing it pleases open the run window and type following command. winword /r
And then enter. Please make space among / and winword.
 After that check, Your all word files will open in MS word.
