Hi,

My personal computer at home is a Compaq made Presario series, and it comes with windows XP 32 bit operating system.

I have 1 GB of ram installed, and everything is working fine except MS word 2007.

Whenever I try to save any document in the Word, I received an error.  After that error, the word closes down and restarts again. I can’t save any document in the word.

The file already available are easily opened by the word, and they cannot give me any error when I change them and then save them . Whenever I create a new file and tries to save it first time, the word after giving the same error, got closed automatically and then restarts.

The error is

Microsoft word error

Microsoft Word – Error saving documents

Hi Lauraw,

It's probably because the Microsoft Word installed on your computer is set up to be compatible only with an earlier Windows operating system like Windows 7. You can still fix this by locating the folder where the Microsoft Word is installed.

Try locating it on the default location which is Program Files. If its installed on a different location, try to find it. After locating the Microsoft Office folder, look for the word "Winword.exe". Right click to it and click on the "Properties". Click the "Compatibility" tab. Make sure that all of the boxes are clear, with no checks. Then finally click "Ok".

See screenshot sample.

I hope this helps, Kate Spears

Only 2 reasons why your encountering that error, 1st is compatibility settings on winword.exe 2nd your normal.dot file is corrupted and unreadable.

1st. Open the root directory of microsoft word, open Drive C, program files folder, microsoft office folder, office folder and locate winword.exe, right on it and select properties, on the compatibility tab clear all boxes and click OK.

2nd. Create a new normal.dot file. Click START and SEARCH, select all files and folders and type normal.dot, set look in to my computer, now for every normal.dot file searched renamed it to errornormal.dot then try to open again your microsoft office.
