When you find an update for Microsoft Outlook, many people assume that it is harmless to install and will help their computer to function in the best way possible. However, it starts creating such problems in your outlook like opening in safe mode every time.

So, to fix this, you can uninstall the update
Windows 10
1. Go to Start menu.
2. In the Search box, enter ‘View Installed Updates’ and press Enter.
3. After that in the list of updates, look for the update ‘KB3114409’, and click Uninstall.

Windows 8 and 8.1
1. Browse for Windows Update, and select Windows Update.
2. Then, choose Installed Updates.
3. Now, in the list of updates, find the update ‘KB3114409’ and select Uninstall.

If you use Microsoft Office Outlook as email client and it keeps starting in Safe Mode every time you use it, check if it is running in compatibility mode. To do this, open Windows Explorer then navigate to the installation folder of Microsoft Office like if you have Microsoft Office 2007, you would go to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12”. Here, scroll down and look for the “OUTLOOK.EXE” file.

Right-click it and select “Properties”. In “Properties” window, go to “Compatibility” tab then verify if “Run this program in compatibility mode for” is checked under “Compatibility mode” section. If this is checked, uncheck it to make Microsoft Office Outlook run in normal mode. When you are finished, click “OK” then start Microsoft Office Outlook. See if this works.

If this doesn’t work, create a new shortcut for Microsoft Office Outlook. Right-click a blank spot in your desktop then point to “New” and select “Shortcut”.

Create a new shortcut

In “Create Shortcut” dialog, click “Browse” then navigate to “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OUTLOOK.EXE”. Click “OK” then “Next”. Name your shortcut as without quotes “Microsoft Office Outlook” then click “Finish”. Now, whenever you want to use Microsoft Office Outlook, use this shortcut you created to open the email client. Microsoft Office Outlook runs in Safe Mode if the shortcut has the without quotes “/safe” switch.

By default, the original shortcut of the email client can’t be edited so there’s no way for the “/safe” switch to be added, in case someone added it to the shortcut. So, if you always use the original shortcut and it keeps opening in Safe Mode, there must be something wrong with the shortcut itself that’s why creating a new shortcut should fix the problem.
