Installing only one Norton Anti-Virus for two machines

My local area network has two home computers with Linksys cards in each. Both desktops have Windows 7 and the Internet Explorer and the other browsers are of the latest versions.

This works well for me.

Norton Antivirus is installed on one of the machine.

Are both machines protected through the network, or should I install the same antivirus program separately on each machine?

HI Ma'am Elaine,

Your are using Norton, Norton has 3 different types Norton anitivirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 total protection. Now, Norton antivirus has Antivirus, Antispyware, Phishing protection and Browser protection.

Norton Internet Security Antivirus, Antispyware,Phishing protection, Online identity protection, AntispamNetwork mapping and monitoring, Parental controls management and Smart firewall Social network protection.

Norton 360 total protection has Antivirus,  Antispyware, Phishing protection, Online identity protection,Antispam, Network mapping and monitoring, Parental controls management, Smart firewall, Social network protection, Automatic backup, PC tuneup,2 GB of secured online storage.

So it means only 1 desktop is being protected.

Before you install the Norton, you have to uninstall the previous antivirus. After that install Norton. It is recommended to Install the Norton on each pc and update it after the installation is finish to have the fully protection.

Thank you so much and God bless

Unfortunately, not all the computers connected to your home network are protected if only one machine is installed with an antivirus. Any antivirus product is good only for one machine or device. If your home network has two computers, you need to install the antivirus program separately on each computer. Since you are using Norton antivirus, check that your license or subscription covers two or more devices.

If the subscription is for a single computer only, you cannot install it on the other machine. You can install the trial version but it will expire after some time. If you are fine with free antivirus programs, you can try one of these:

  • Avast Free Antivirus – the latest version at the moment supports Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32-bit only), Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (except Starter edition), Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.x (except RT and Starter edition), and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit. It requires Intel Pentium 4 with SSE2 support or equivalent AMD Athlon 64 or faster processor, 256 MB RAM, and 2 GB free space.
  • Avira Free Antivirus – the latest version at the moment supports Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. It requires 2 GB RAM and 2 GB free space.
