Hi!
If you have experienced this, maybe you could help me. I recently purchased a laptop which had Starter edition for Word and Excel. However, in the start menu and when I choose MS Office, a pop-up appears saying that I have to buy an activation key or enter an activation key. If I enter this key, would I automatically access the features on MS Professional Plus or would I still need to install by using the disks that came with the package? I would really appreciate your input.
I have to buy an activation key or enter an activation key.

Usually, starter edition software are just trial version of the application. Since the application included on your laptop is the Starter edition of Word and Excel, it will only open via the desktop icon of the application. Since you are opening the Microsoft office, its asking you for the activation key or if you want to buy the activation key because it is seeing that you wanted to use the whole office application. That includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, One Note and the others included on the package. If you want to use the full package, you may need to buy the activation key before it will work.

As per my knowledge, starter edition softwares are trial version softwares. As you have mentioned that you got a new laptop and you have a starter edition of MS Word and Excel, it will work for some limited amount of time after that it will ask for the activation key. Now, if you want to use the complete office application along with Word and Excel you need to buy the activation key, and this will resolve your issue. There is no need to buy the complete disk and then install it in your laptop.
