How long would a defragmentation take when you do it

Hi experts!

I am curious to know how long would a defragmentation take when you do it for the first time?

When I did it on my computer, it still did not finish after 12 hours.

And after I did it, I lost computer space. Did I do something wrong?

What should I do?

How long would a defragmentation take when you do it

Windows Defrager is meant to run in the background and may take a very long time to finish especially if you are using Windows Vista.

It is advisable to do a regular disk maintenance every 3 months as it will help to make sure that you have a good performance and disk life. Make sure to try to do a disk check to see if there are any errors on your computer.

Try to go to Start > my computer > right click 'c' drive > properties > tools > error check: here check both boxes, then OK.

To free up some space, try to go to Start > my computer > right click 'c' drive > properties > general tab > disk clean up and you may delete unwanted files like temporary internet files.
