Each time I boot my PC, Windows gives a “Windows protection error while installing Device” message. Restarting  the computer or reinstalling the software does not help

This occurs because Windows Setup flushes the L2 Cache as it starts the PCI-to-AGP Bridge on the Micro-Star International MSI-5169 motherboard, even though in your case you are not using the MSI motherboard, this problem may also occur to other motherboards.

You need to get in touch with your computer manufacturer to find out if there is a possibly of BIOS upgrade but if you have the latest version of BIOS then us e either of the following steps to resolve the problem;

  • In the CMOS, disable the external (CPU or L2) cache. You can get the instructions/procedure from documents that included with your computer or get in touch with the manufacturer. Or
  • Replace the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) video adapter if you are using it with a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) video adapter

Hey Christen moore

You must be facing this error in Windows Xp due to several reasons. Well you not need to worry about this problem. Basically this error occurs due to the problem in Registry, Problem with hardware and software.

Obviously when you see this error you are not able to log in the windows. So what you need to is to insert a bootable Windows XP CD in your CDDVD Rom and restart your computer.

When it says "press any key to boot from CD" then press any key.

It will take you to the windows xp setup. Do not install a fresh copy of windows Xp. You just have to repair the windows Xp. Select repair and it will repair the entire broken registry.

Note: If this error occurs due to Hardware problem then you must give a proper check to you motherboard.

Thanks
