Getting App installation issues in Ubuntu

Hello,

You must acquire applications which can be installed on systems running Ubuntu. Most software makes this clear and provides clear instructions for install. Consult the Ubuntu website for a list of applications (and their user-friendly installation software) that have versions for your OS.

If you would specifically like to install MS Office, you have three options:

  1. Run MS Office under WINE, which is essentially a Windows emulator.

  2. Use Microsoft Office Online.

  3. Create a Windows live CD with Microsoft Office bundled into the image.

WINE is suitable for casual use (i.e., gaming), but is not recommended for more critical use due to its serious flaws. Microsoft Office Online offers a very limited version of MS Office applications, and its performance is poor given its problematic responsiveness. Your best option may be to create a Windows live cd with MS Office bundled into the media image. You could use this without affecting your installed system and you would have nearly the same performance as an install provided your hardware allows.
