To solve this error you are getting-

  1. Make a desktop shortcut of generals.exe
  2. Go to it’s properties and then to shortcut tab
  3. In Target line add -win
  4. Then by right clicking on your desktop and proceeding further, change your screen resolution to portrait
  5. Then launch the game
  6. Change screen size and make it bigger
  7. Make the screen orientation back to landscape

This will solve the problem.

I’m not sure what game exactly are you playing because you said “Generals” but I see “League of Legends” on your screenshot. Anyway, if you have an error related to Microsoft DirectX, check the system requirements of the game you are playing. If you have Microsoft Windows 8.1, it has Microsoft DirectX 11.2.

Command & Conquer: Generals

If your game requires only Microsoft DirectX 8.1 then there should be no problem because you have a much higher version. But then again, you should check the game’s required or supported operating system. If you want to play “Command & Conquer: Generals,” it supports Windows 98, Windows Millennium, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Windows 95 and Windows NT are not supported.

Because the game is very old, I don’t think it will run on Windows 8.1 unless you have the modified version that runs on higher operating systems. It requires 800 MHz Intel Pentium 3 or equivalent AMD Athlon processor, 128 MB RAM, Microsoft DirectX 8.1-compatible video card with 32 MB video RAM, sound card, 1.8 GB free space, and 8x optical drive.

League of Legends

On the other hand, if you intend to play “League of Legends,” you need to have Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or higher, or Windows 7. It requires 2 GHz or faster processor, 1 GB RAM, Microsoft DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 512 MB video RAM and Shader 2.0 support, and 8 GB free space.
