I have a problem with my DVD/DVD-RW drive. Whenever I enter a blank CD or DVD, it’s not reading them. But it works fine with burned discs or discs with written data. Any ideas how to solve this?

Dear James,

Most of the times this could happen simply because of the dirt on the lens of your burning device.

Please try cleaning you lens by using a lens cleaner disc. They are very cheap and easy to find in any store.

If you are getting the same problem even after you have cleaned the lens. Then this might probably be a hardware related problem. if there is warranty still remaining for this device. Try claiming it.

Thank you,

Hello James,

Sorry to hear about your DVD drive. This could be brand related as other black DVD brands are picky. Try using a different brand and if the same problem persists, consider cleaning it with the lens cleaner.

If you still have the same problem and you are running windows XP, disable the IMAPI cd burning device.

Here is how:
  • Click Start
  • Open the run box, type services.msc
  • Look for the IMAPI CD burning service and disable it.
