Is it true that altitude changes affect the performance of MacBook pro, because I have complains from my friend on different locations about its performance there.

Just like any other laptops MacBook Pro affects the performance depending on the temperatures as well. Technically, if you keep using your MacBook from inadequate airflow to frozen processes can cause damage to your computer and it affects the performance if it happens repeatedly.
Remember it is not the MacBook itself that is being damaged since it is not quite expensive or you will not invest greatly on something that could be damaged easily; so as I am speaking with the components or wires that is connected to the laptop itself that causes problem.
Therefore, it is recommended that you follow safety guidelines of your MacBook to ensure everything works properly and to maintain the good performance of it.
